Thank you to everyone who turned out at the Newport International Boat Show! With a 12% increase in attendance over last year, the show was a true success. Whereas many other boat shows across the country were forced to halt production this year, the boost of support at the show in mid-September promises that there is a “light at the end of the (economic) tunnel.” Increased interest in boating products of all kinds made exhibitors happy and proved once again why the Newport International Boat Show is a leader in the industry. With oceans of expertise under its belt, it’s easy to see that if you harbor a passion for boating, there’s only one place to be! We look forward to hosting you all again in 2010.
A heapin’ serving of gratitude and smiles to the souls that braved wind and rain to enjoy the Ocean State’s culinary curiosities this past weekend at the Stop & Shop Taste of Rhode Island. It would not have been a truly Rhody event without some twist thrown into the mix, and Mother Nature surely tested us. But the tempest didn’t deter our chefs from doing what they do best – serving up savory morsels to Rhode Island foodies and families alike! In the spirit of friends and good fun, several contests were held at the event this year, and some surprise winners took home bragging rights. Will Davis of Cumberland was the winner of the Oyster Slurp-Off, with no previous slurping experience! We couldn’t believe it, but this rookie had beginner’s luck on his side, though he explained, “I did purchase some Thursday night to practice.” The cram session paid off! In addition to a plethora of music, beer, Bavarian cuisine, and all-around good-naturedness, this year’s International Oktoberfest! will feature harvest flair! Get a glimpse of customized Oktoberfest Jack-o-lanterns in our Weingarten, from our friends at Roger Williams Park Zoo. Plus, register to win tickets to the Jack-o-lantern Spectacular at the zoo through Halloween. Young ones will also enjoy themselves in the kid-friendly Kindergarten area featuring autumnal arts and crafts like pumpkin painting, leaf rubbing and magnificent balloon creations from Ron, everyone’s favorite balloon artist. Of course, the official Oktoberfest staples of juicy bratwurst, yodeling tunes, and tasty brews will also be present to make it a bona fide Bavarian weekend. So bring the entire family to enjoy fall’s choice festival this weekend!
It’s no secret that for those who are aficionados of brews and ales of all types look forward to Oktoberfest each year with high spirits. The opportunity to try so many deliciously crafted beers in one place is a rare and welcomed opportunity. From the marzenbier (“March Beer”), which is typically the first beer to be tapped at the festival to signify the end of summer and the start of a new season, to witbier, a wheat ale infused with aromas and spices to give it a very distinct flavor, the opportunities are practically endless to expand your beer palate at this year’s festival. With two biergartens, the International Biergarten and Beck’s Biergarten, featuring creations from Spaten, Leinenkugel, Samel Adams, Newport Storm, Narragansett, Leffe Brown, Hoegaarden, Beck’s, Stella Artois and more, there will be no wrong turn made wandering the event, appreciating the diversity of drink, and enjoying the company of other like-minded beer-lovers such as yourself.
